The former Metropolitan Hotel in Romulus, closed for more than three years, will reopen this summer as the 274-room Radisson Hotel Detroit Metro Airport following a multi-million-dollar renovation.

The hotel, located at 31500 Wick Rd., about a five-minute drive to the airport, is owned by Nevada-based RKJ Hotel Management. The hotel has been closed since 2012. First Hospitality Group Inc. in Rosemont, Ill. will manage the property.

“First Hospitality Group has been looking to extend our reach in the metro Detroit area for some time now, and this property presented us a great opportunity as turnaround specialists to revitalize this hotel and re-introduce it to the community,” says Robert Habeeb, president and CEO of First Hospitality Group. “We are confident that as a Radisson … this property will become an … asset to the millions of people traveling through the Detroit Metro Airport each year.”

Habeeb says the hotel is undergoing extensive renovations to its guest rooms, parking areas, restaurant, meeting rooms, and common areas. He says the hotel offers more than 13,000 square feet of meeting space, a dining room, a fitness room, a concierge lounge, and an indoor/outdoor pool.

The design team includes Julie Brezina Interior Design and Coast to Coast Renovation, which will complete the construction and engineering work.

First Hospitality Group also manages the Hampton Inn in Ann Arbor, the Hilton Garden Inn in Plymouth Township, and the Residence Inn in Ann Arbor, among other hotels across the Midwest.
