The Novi-based Tier 1 automotive supplier Danlaw Inc. has acquired Rapita Systems, a provider of real-time verification solutions for aerospace and automotive embedded systems. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Rapita fits perfectly with the aggressive growth goals set for our engineering solutions division,” says Raju Dandu, chairman of Danlaw. “Our strategic plan included further addition of software engineering tools and global expansion of our engineering services; this acquisition delivers on both.”

Rapita’s products include a performance measurement and timing analysis, including worst-case execution time; structural coverage analysis; visualization of real-time operating system scheduling; and unit testing and module-based testing. Dandu says the tools help to reduce the cost of measuring, optimizing, and verifying the timing performance and test effectiveness of embedded systems such as navigation, anti-lock braking, adaptive cruise control, and airbag controls.

“With the integration of Rapita products, Danlaw has strengthened its portfolio of embedded software tools to include on-target testing,” says Dan McClung, vice president of engineering solutions at Danlaw. “This extended tool suite further addresses the needs of automotive and aerospace functional safety requirements.”

United Kingdom-based Rapita provides software systems in the avionics, space, and automotive electronics markets, with customers including Airbus and BAE Systems.

“This acquisition opens great opportunities for Rapita to consolidate and to grow its customer base, in particular to expand the operations in the U.S.,” says Guillem Bernat, CEO of Rapita Systems.

Danlaw offers embedded systems development and testing for embedded control units, vehicle network communications, infotainment, and telematics. The company has more than 500 employees working in facilities in the U.S., India, Europe, and China.
