Breathe Beauty Bar, a natural beauty spa and juice bar, will open Saturday on the second floor of the Julian C. Madison building in downtown Detroit, just south of the David Whitney Building and the Aloft Hotel.

“I wanted to bring something a little different than just the average day spa,” says Monica Brown, owner and founder of Breathe Beauty Bar. “I wanted it to have the feel of a bar — social, but you’re still getting pampered. Everything is all-natural, even down to the products we use for your nails.”

Services at the 2,200-square-foot beauty bar, located at 1420 Washington Blvd., include massages, 30-minute express facials, manicures, regular and steam pedicures, full makeup services, lashes and lash extensions, and brow tinting. Various juices also will be available for purchase.

“I feel that we can service a lot of the apartments and hotels that don’t have a spa, and incorporate some of the businesses that will come down here,” Brown says.

She says a bar in the center of the space serves as the focal point, complemented by a lounge that includes seating, tall tables, the juice bar, and retail products. There are also two massage rooms with high ceilings and chandeliers.

“We’d like to have a mobile beauty bar in the future in maybe six to nine months so that we can cover events in the downtown area, and even go to homes so that you can have pampering services there,” Brown says.  “We also want to open up several more beauty bars and create a franchise in the next year.”

She says a natural, nine-product beauty line she created for her daughter who has eczema inspired the business. She turned the product line into a full-service beauty bar when she attended Detroit-based TechTown’s Retail Boot Camp, which connected her with the Detroit Development Fund and Michigan Women’s Foundation.
