Livonia-based ZF TRW, a supplier of safety electronics products, will open a new 170,000-square-foot headquarters for its global electronics business in Farmington Hills.
“The incredible growth of our electronics product portfolio, and in particular our driver assist systems such as the automotive cameras that are designed and developed at the current Farmington Hills locations, have brought about this … opportunity,” says Mark Stewart, executive vice president of operations and COO at ZF TRW.
Stewart says the facility, located in the Arboretum Office Park on 12 Mile Road and Orchard Lake Road, offers both laboratory and office space, and will be home to 600 employees, the majority of them engineers.
ZF TRW’s electronics products for vehicles include a three-lens camera that supports semi- to fully-autonomous driving functions. Functions supported by the camera system include adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, emergency steering assist, and collision mitigation systems, among others.
“Our … engineers and technicians will have even greater opportunities as we develop products in our new lab and vehicle test facilities,” says Ken Kaiser, vice president of global electronics engineering at ZF TRW. “We will also continue to look for new talent as growth continues and the new headquarters will give us greater capacity.”
The ZF TRW North American headquarters will remain in Livonia.
ZF, which acquired TRW Automotive in May 2015, has 230 facilities in 40 countries. The company has 138,000 employees.
