Lansing-based Neogen Corp., a developer of food and animal safety products, has acquired two sister companies — Preserve International and Tetradyne — that produce livestock and food processing cleaners and disinfectants. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Preserve has an exceptional catalog of innovative products, state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, and a proven staff for development and manufacturing — who will now continue under Neogen’s ownership in their existing locations,” says James Herbert, CEO and chairman of Neogen. “Adding Preserve’s products, complementary expertise, and customer base strengthens our cleaner and disinfectant presence.”

Preserve, founded in 1991, offers cleaners and disinfectants for the swine, poultry, and food processing markets, while Tetradyne, also founded in 1991, offers similar products for the dairy industry.

Hebert says Neogen will now operate Preserve’s manufacturing facilities in Memphis, Tenn., and Turlock, Calif.

“As we looked to take our 25-year-old business to the next level, Neogen was the optimum choice,” says Gary Gaumer, president of Nevada-based Preserve International Corp., the parent company of Preserve and Tetradyne. “Neogen’s focus on biosecurity for the agricultural markets aligns very closely with our mission.”

Last year, Neogen acquired rodenticide products from Virbac Corp., the North American affiliate of the French-based animal health company, Virbac Group. The company also acquired Sterling Test House, a commercial food-testing laboratory in southwest India.

Neogen, founded in 1982, employs more than 1,000 people.
