Detroit-based Henry Ford Health System has licensed its healthcare technology for the development of a new specialty care hospital in southern India.
Officials from India-based Pearl Human Care Private Limited plan to break ground on the new Naruvi Hospital, located in the city of Vellore, by next spring.
The first phase of the hospital, which is expected to open in 2019 and feature a combination of Henry Ford’s clinical practices and advanced digital technology, will have 250 beds. The hospital will provide primary care in addition to advanced specialty care in cardiology and orthopedics.
A team led by Mark Coticchia, chief innovation officer for Henry Ford Health System, managed the licensing agreement through the international arm of Henry Ford Health System Innovations, which is a program that focuses on new hospital development, healthcare delivery improvements, new medical partnerships, technology developments, and training staff in different parts of the world.
“With the huge increase in lifestyle diseases like diabetes and heart disease, families need access to affordable, sustainable care more than ever,” Coticchia says. “With our medical expertise and innovative technology, Henry Ford is well positioned to share that knowledge and help meet that need.”
A six-hospital system, Henry Ford Health System is comprised of hospitals, medical centers, and the Henry Ford Medical Group, which includes more than 1,200 physicians practicing in over 40 specialties. Founded in 1915 by Henry Ford, the nonprofit corporation has more than 23,000 employees and generates $1.6 billion in revenue.
