Grosse Pointe-based City Bark, a boutique pet product retailer, will open its first Detroit location in The Albert at Capitol Park in early 2017.

Similar to the company’s Grosse Pointe store, located at 17027 Kercheval Ave., the new 1,250-square-foot City Bark in Detroit, located at 1214 Griswold, will offer a selection of American-made dog collars, leashes, jackets, games, toys, food, health products, and more.

The boutique, which will reside between Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters and the recently announced La Lanterna, will also host adoption events and offer a pet food delivery service. In addition, the store will partner with area businesses to host vaccination clinics, grooming services, and training and education classes.

“Our mission is to offer products and services that make owning a pet more convenient and enjoyable,” says Jamie Judson, owner and cofounder of City Bark. “The Albert is a natural fit for our new location because it allows us to bring our knowledge to a new market, while promoting other local businesses and organizations throughout the city.”

She says the boutique’s new location was selected because of the building’s pet-friendly policy, close proximity to multiple Detroit communities, and new developments happening downtown.

Managed by Birmingham-based Broder & Sachse Real Estate Services, the Albert is a 127-unit, 12-story luxury apartment complex that opened in July 2015. Other businesses include Detroit Bikes and Go! Sy Thai. Founded in 1993, Broder & Sachse manages 70 properties totaling more than 6.7 million square feet across the country, including Class-A office, retail, mixed-use destinations, and multifamily developments.
