Ford Motor Co. said today it generated net income of $7.4 billion in 2015, up from $6.1 billion in 2014. The increase was largely due to added demand for the automaker’s SUVs and pickup trucks.

“We promised a breakthrough year in 2015, and we delivered,” says Mark Fields, president and CEO of Ford. “In 2016, we will continue to build on our strengths and accelerate our pace of progress even further, while transforming Ford into both an auto and a mobility company and creating value for all of our stakeholders.”

Fields says the automaker generated $1.9 billion in net income in the fourth quarter of 2015 on $149.6 billion in revenue.

Fields says Ford achieved its best annual sales in the United States since 2005, and the F-Series was the best selling vehicle in the U.S. for the 34th straight year. He says the Europe region returned to profitability while the Asia-Pacific region saw its best-ever annual profit, although the automaker continued to struggle with sales in South America.

The Lincoln brand saw its best U.S. sales since 2008, and Lincoln SUV sales were up 21 percent in 2015.

Fields says Ford completed 16 global launches last year, including the new Escape in North America, the Taurus in China, the all-new Shelby GT350 Mustang, and the 2017 Lincoln MKZ.

Ford will give its 53,000 hourly workers profit-sharing payouts of $9,300, up from $6,900 in 2014.

IN RELATED NEWS, the automaker has created a six-part video series for F-Series Super Duty pickup truck owners to view its capabilities before the public.

“We’re taking these customers behind the scenes to witness what goes into development and testing of the new Super Duty,” says Craig Schmatz, chief engineer of the Ford F-Series Super Duty truck.

Schmatz says the videos, which will be posted on Ford.com next month, showcase the truck’s capabilities and attributes, including its weight savings from its steel frame and aluminum-alloy body.
