Live Another Day, a new documentary film on the bailout of the U.S. automotive industry, is set to premiere next week at the 2016 Myrtle Beach International Film Festival, and will be distributed to theaters in September.

“Our goal with ‘Live Another Day’ was to provide a comprehensive portrayal of the largest industrial rescue in American history,” says Didier Pietri, co-director of the film. “With the merits of the bailout still being debated in the 2016 (presidential) campaign and questions arising about the sustainability of the auto industry’s comeback, this story is as relevant today as ever.”

Pietri says the movie is based on the book, Crash Course, by Pulitzer Prize author Paul Ingrassia. The film portrays how the American car industry evolved into an oligopoly and delves into its battle with the United Auto Workers. As far back as the 1950s, he says decisions to address structural burdens like healthcare and pension liabilities were dodged by all parties who preferred to “live another day,” rather than tackle the problems.

Live Another Day includes interviews with Big Three CEOs, UAW members, senior members of President Obama’s automotive task force, bankers, journalists, analysts, former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker, and former Tonight Show host Jay Leno.

The film includes an original soundtrack as well as songs by Aretha Franklin, Foreigner, John Hiatt, The Temptations, and Mick Jagger.

The Argos Pictures film will premiere on April 23 in Myrtle Beach.
