Second and Charles, a retailer that specializes in trading books, video games, collectibles, and more, will open a 30,000-square-foot location in the Utica Park Place shopping center this August. The store will be the company’s second Michigan location.

“Second and Charles offers a very different kind of shopping and trading experience,” says Scott Kappler, vice president of marketing for the retailer. “Utica’s dynamic energy makes it the perfect place to further expand our presence in Michigan, and we look forward to sharing all the personal and profound treasures that 2nd and Charles has to offer with the community.”

The new store, to be located at 24390 Utica Park Blvd., will offer more than 300,000 items in more than three miles of stocked shelf space.

The store will buy and sell new and used books, CDs, DVDs and Blu-Ray, video games, game systems, vinyl records, comic books, electronics, toys, collectibles, and more. Customers wishing to sell their own used items can sell them upon arrival and redeem the pieces for cash or store credit.

Apart from its selection of merchandise, the Utica location will also feature the brand’s first on-site coffee bar called ChuckStop. The coffee bar will offer a variety of hot and cold beverages, whole-bean coffee, full-leaf teas, pastries, snacks, and more.

More than 50 employees will be hired to support the store, which will hold its grand opening to the public on Aug. 6.

There are currently 27 2nd and Charles locations in 15 states, including one in Auburn Hills, located at 3924 Baldwin Rd. Company officials say no other Michigan stores are planned at this time.
