Detroit-based Bedrock Real Estate Services today announced it has acquired Corktown Lofts, a mixed-use space with an office building and warehouses, in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood. Terms of the purchase were not released.

“This acquisition presents creative redevelopment opportunities for us in a vibrant, growing area,” says Jim Ketai, managing partner and CEO of Bedrock Real Estate Services. “Anyone who has visited Corktown recently has experienced its wonderful energy. We have already received interest from potential new tenants looking to locate their offices downtown in this type of open, collaborative space.”

Ketai says Corktown Lofts contains a four-story loft-style office building, two warehouses, and two surface lofts that total nearly 179,000 square feet. The building, located at 1700 W. Fort St., fronts both West Fort Street and West Lafayette Boulevard between Rosa Parks Boulevard and 10th Street. The building is 160,000 square feet with about 50 underground parking spaces. He says the two warehouses total 18,000 square feet, and there are also two surface lots.

The building was owned by Rick Portwood, principal of The Display Group, which recently moved its operations to the former Packard Plant, Building No. 22, on Detroit’s east side. Current tenants at Corktown Lofts include the creative content studio Pluto Post Productions and photographer, artist, and collector Lisa Spindler.

Corktown Lofts are near Quicken Loans’ new technology center and office complex, located at 1401 Rosa Parks Blvd.
