Bamboo Detroit, an organization that offers shared workspaces and resources to entrepreneurs, has signed a lease for 6,000 square feet of space in the Julian C. Madison Building in downtown Detroit.
Expected to open in January 2017, the new facility, located at 1420 Washington Blvd., will accommodate up to 300 entrepreneurs, which more than doubles the organization’s current capacity.
“Bamboo provides access to collaborative workspace, educational, and networking events, and fosters an entrepreneurially led culture for the city’s growing startup scene,” says Mike Ferlito, cofounder of Bamboo Detroit and a partner at Ferlito Group in Detroit. “Our new home is a perfect fit. The building celebrates Julian C. Madison’s belief that one has to take their destiny in their own hands to progress in life.”
The organization’s new location will offer team offices, dedicated desks, and open collaborative workspace, as well as expanded business workshops, networking events, inspirational talks, peer-to-peer support, and a wellness and self-care series.
Bamboo member NXT Design, a commercial interior design firm, has created a custom and interior design layout for the new space, while Detroit’s Rocket Fiber, also an original Bamboo member, will provide Gigabit Internet that is 1,000 times faster than average speeds. Rightsize Facility, a Chicago-based office interiors and facilities services firm, will provide flexible furniture including new glass modular offices, collaborative workstations, and seating, for the office.
Bamboo’s expansion is privately funded with partial grant support from Motor City Match. Members of the organization include programmers and photographers, tech startups, design firms, nonprofits, and service providers.
