Dürr Systems Inc., a Germany-based mechanical and plant engineering firm, has opened a $40 million campus in Southfield, which consolidates the company’s previous operations in Plymouth Township, Wixom, and Auburn Hills.

“This investment is a clear commitment to the North American market,” says Ralf W. Dieter, CEO of Dürr AG. “From Southfield we can support our customers even more effectively and exploit the growing potential of the U.S. market.”

At nearly 100,000 square feet of office space, the new campus houses more than 500 employees. Located at 26801 Northwestern Hwy. (near the Lahser Road exit), the grounds include facilities for the company’s painting and final assembly technology, cleaning and exhaust-air purification technology, and balancing technology.

The campus also has a validation, test, and training center, which can be used for product development, production tests, and training for customers.

“The campus provides our employees with the ideal communication platform and ensures even more efficient cooperation,” says Bruno Welsch, head of U.S. for Dürr. “Our test and training center comes complete with Dürr’s latest high-tech equipment, offering customers the perfect environment to run training and tests.”

Dürr has 92 locations in 28 countries, and nearly 15,000 employees. Business with automotive OEMs and components suppliers generate around 60 percent of the company’s annual revenue.
