The 30th annual University of Michigan-The Urban Land Institute of Michigan Real Estate Forum, to be held this November in Detroit and Ann Arbor, will focus on “the city of tomorrow” and “placemaking,” which consists of the approach to planning, designing, and managing public spaces.
This year’s forum attendees, who include local, regional, and national real estate practitioners and leaders, will learn professional and academic real estate trends on where people live, work, and play.
“The 30th U-M/ULI Real Estate Forum will bring real estate professionals and current grad and undergrad students eager to join the industry together for 20 hours of innovation, interaction, and education,” says Peter Allen, chairman of this year’s forum, founder of Peter Allen + Associates Walkable Development in Ann Arbor, and an adjunct professor at U-M since 1981. He founded the UM/ULI Real Estate Forum 30 years ago to bring students and industry professionals together.
“We encourage anyone in real estate — from development, brokerage and urban planning to law, finance, architecture, and construction — to attend to gain a new perspective on the future of commercial real estate and peacemaking,” he adds.
He says the event will feature a lineup of more than 50 expert speakers who will discuss trends in market niches, finance options, design values, and how to create a sense of place. Speakers will include Stephen Ross, chairman of The Related Cos. in New York; Robert S. Taubman, chairman, president, and CEO of Taubman Centers Inc. in Bloomfield Hills; and Peter Cummings, principal of The Platform in Detroit
The forum will be held Nov.17 at the Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center, located at 3711 Woodward Ave. in Detroit, and the mornings of Nov. 18-19 at U-M’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business, located at 701 Tappan Ave. in Ann Arbor.
