The Village Workshop, a maker space dedicated to creativity and entrepreneurship that provides machine tools, 3-D printers, machinery, and software, will open Saturday in downtown Northville.
“There’s no better investment we can make with our woodworking and metalworking equipment than empowering those in the community with a desire to learn and create,” says Bob Varzino, senior vice president of marketing and Internet for JPW Industries, Inc., the parent company of such brands as Powermatic and JET Tools.
The company, based in Tennessee that has several operations in Michigan, is providing tools for the Village Workshop. The company is providing 25 woodworking and metalworking machines, along with technical support. The 24,000 square feet space will be equipped with such tools as a drill press, panel saw, and hydraulic press.
The Village Workshop, 455 East Cady St., is targeted to artists, builders, students, and engineers. Membership to the space is similar to a gym membership, with an unlimited use package priced at $960 per year, while a mini yearly package is $240 a year. Guest passes are also available.
The Village Workshop is holding an open house from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday with a reception from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
