Wisconsin-based Pizza Chain Looks to Metro Detroit for Expansion

Toppers Pizza, a Wisconsin-based pizza chain known for its wide variety of toppings and quick delivery service, is looking to expand into the metro Detroit market by opening up multiple restaurants in the area within the next few years.

The pizza chain, which has 71 stores in 11 states across the Midwest, has doubled in size over the past three years. The brand opened its first restaurant in Michigan in Grand Rapids over a year ago.

Now, Mark Cairns, director of franchise development at Toppers Pizza, says the company is looking for a local franchisee to open multiple restaurants in metro Detroit.

“We don’t do individual stores,” Cairns says. “It’s not a part time job. We’re looking for somebody to open up three to eight stores somewhere in the suburbs of Detroit or in (the city of) Detroit.”

He says Toppers Pizza is targeting good retail areas that are close to a high density of population.

“We want to have 25,000 households within an eight minute drive time of the location,” Cairns says.

He says Toppers Pizza restaurants feature fresh dough made in the store, Wisconsin cheese, and options including breadsticks, and wings.

“We have multiple toppings so our depth chart is really deep, from jerk chicken to macaroni and cheese to buffalo chicken — just a lot of different, unique toppings,” Cairns says.

He says he expects a restaurant to open in metro Detroit sometime next year.
