House of Pure Vin, a retail wine shop featuring more than 4,000 bottles of wine, as well as champagnes and tasting rooms, has opened in downtown Detroit on Woodward Avenue.
Regina Gaines, co-owner of House of Pure Vin, says the more than 3,000-square-foot store, located on the first floor of the Lofts at Merchant Row building at 1433 Woodward Ave., has a focus on Michigan wine, with more than 120 different product lines available from the state.
“Michigan has been producing some great wines, and maybe it just needed a different platform,” Gaines says.
She plans to expand the offerings to 8,000 bottles of wine next year, including selections from France, Germany, Spain, Austria, and Italy, among other countries and states. Gaines says House of Vin has a master sommelier, Claudia Tyagi, one of nearly 150 individuals in North America with the certification.
“(Tyagi) is one of three (master sommeliers) in Michigan, and we worked with her to help choose a portfolio that was unique and affordable,” Gaines says.
She adds store personnel will offer tastings to customers, as well as “an education on the types of wines, growing area, and unique tasting notes.”
