Wayne State University will host a panel discussion that invites emerging to mid-career visual and performance artists to explore the marketing side of the art business next month.

"We are excited to provide our alumni and the community-at-large with opportunities to connect and the necessary tools to promote their own art-based entrepreneurial pursuits," says Matthew Seeger, dean of the college of fine, performing, and communication arts at Wayne State. "The Business of Art panel discussion provides an opportunity for our alumni and others to build on Detroit's tradition of arts entrepreneurship."

The panelists include Howard Hertz, a partner at Hertz Schram in Bloomfield Township and an entertainment attorney with clients like Eminem, George Clinton, and Russell Simmons; Cecelia Sharpe, a freelance musician; Jon Dones, founder of Studio Teal; Jocelyn Rainey, a sculptor and painter; and Bridget Russo-Gottlieb, director of marketing at Detroit-based Shinola.

The panel takes place on Aug. 14 at Wayne State's Old Main Building and is followed by a networking street party.
