Island Resort and Casino in Harris Township in the Upper Peninsula is launching a two-year, $8 million-dollar expansion project that includes the addition of a second championship golf course and a ull-service spa, among other improvements.
“Through the years, the Hannahville Indian Community has undertaken projects to enhance and promote Island Resort and Casino, making us a leader in the Midwest gaming resort-and-golf arena as well as offering employment opportunities to well over 700 persons,” says Kenneth Meshigaud, tribal chairman of the Hannahville Indian Community, which owns and operates the resort. “We remain committed to both as we re-invest in the operation, offering additional amenities and enhancements to our guests.”
As part of the expansion, renovations will also be made to the resort’s existing Island Sports Bar, bingo hall, and hotel entrance.
“The management team and employees at the Island are excited about these new amenities, (which allow) us to truly be a full-service resort for customers both locally and regionally,” says Tony Mancilla, the resort’s general manager. “The project is in its early stages, but our guests will see many changes quite quickly.”
Island Resort and Casino, located east of Escanaba, is home to the award-winning Sweetgrass Golf Club, which will host the LPGA Symetra Tour’s Island Resort Championship for a fifth-straight year, June 22-28. The course includes five historic bridges and the renowned island green on the par-3, 15th hole, Mancilla says.
In addition, the Island offers Las Vegas style gaming including more than 1,200 slot machines, Bingo and numerous table games, entertainment in the 1,327-seat showroom, a night club, four bars, five dining venues, a convention center, and a 314-room hotel.
