Stahls’, a manufacturer of garment decoration equipment for professional, college, and high school sports leagues, the U.S. Army, and Microsoft, among others, has relocated its global headquarters to Sterling Heights from St. Clair Shores.

“Stahls’ began as a small lettering and imprinting business out of my grandfather’s garage back in 1932,” says Ted Stahl, founder and executive chairman of Stahls’. “The loyalty and support of our employees and customers have provided our company the means to move into this new headquarter location, allowing us to create more jobs locally and continue our expansion into new markets around the world.”

Stahl says the new 51,000-square-foot headquarters, located at 6353 E. 14 Mile Rd., just east of Mound Road, employs nearly 170 of the company’s 425 employees in Michigan. He says the company seeks to hire more employees across its product development, sales, and customer service departments in the coming years.

The new headquarters, formerly occupied by General Dynamics, features Stahls’ main North American customer service center, as well as the creators of StahlsTV.com, which provides tutorials on how to use the company’s textile products and equipment, along with customer service.

The company’s technologies provide customers the ability to brand items such as performance wear, team uniforms, accessories, and sporting goods. Stahls’ works with garment manufacturers, retail embroiders, sporting good stores, screen printers, and sign shops.

In a recent deal with Microsoft, video game users can create their own shirt designs and upload them to Stahls’ for fulfillment. The process takes less than 17 days.

Stahls’, founded in Detroit, operates manufacturing and distribution centers throughout North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. In 2013, Stahl opened a classic car museum under the nonprofit, Stahls Automotive Foundation, in Chesterfield Township.

Stahls’ will also celebrate the opening Thursday of another in new facility near Dallas.
