More holiday shoppers plan to join the Black Friday rush this year, up more than 10 percent over last year, says a new report by Ann Arbor-based ForeSee, a provider of customer experience analytics. Additionally, 5 percent more customers plan to shop on Cyber Monday compared with 2014.

Eric Feinberg, vice president of marketing at ForeSee and author of the ForeSee Experience Index 2015 report, says the company surveyed more than 20,000 consumers across the United States and the United Kingdom.

He says 54 percent of consumers plan to shop on Black Friday compared to 43 percent last year; and 50 percent will do online buying on Monday compared to 45 percent the year before.

Feinberg says more people are becoming aware of Small Business Saturday — shopping locally to support small businesses the Saturday after Thanksgiving — and nearly 30 percent of consumers plan to shop that day, up from 18 percent in 2014.

He says more than half of the customers surveyed believe retailers should not be open on Thanksgiving Day.

“Even though retailers want to spur sales during this time period, it turns out that being open on Thanksgiving is not a popular option with shoppers,” Feinberg says.

Nearly 16 percent of shoppers think stores should open but only later on Thanksgiving Day, while 10 percent of consumers say they want stores open all day.
