Nearly three-fourths of Michigan voters support the law requiring public school districts start classes after the Labor Day holiday, says a survey released today by East Lansing-based Mitchell Research and Communications.

"Michigan voters continue to embrace starting school after Labor Day," says Steve Yencich, president and CEO of the Michigan Lodging and Tourism Association. "Summer is by far our industry's biggest season, and July and August are the most predictably warm months.”

Yencich says the results mark three straight years that a majority of respondents support starting school after Labor Day. The survey found support for school starting after Labor Day remains above 60 percent even when the holiday falls later in the calendar year, as it does this year.

The poll also found August was the most favorable month for family vacations in Michigan, up by a seven-point margin over July.

Mitchell Research and Communications surveyed more than 1,000 likely 2016 voters in Michigan.
