Northville Township-based Medical Care Alert, a medical emergency monitoring service, has launched a new mobile GPS alert system that allows individuals to summon help not only at home, but anywhere in the United States.

“Today’s older Americans live very active lifestyles,” says Bryan Stapp, president of Medical Care Alert. “The Home and Away Elite system fits their active lifestyle with an easy to use, lightweight emergency pendant that protects them anywhere they go in the (United States).”

Stapp says the system uses AT&T’s Wireless network, and is worn around the neck or on the hip. The nearly two-ounce pendant includes two-way cellular voice communication. The system offers an optional automated fall detection, which summons help if a person is unable to press the emergency help button.

“The Elite pendant can tell the difference between an actual fall and someone sitting down too quickly,” Stapp says. “This helps prevent false alarms, common with the older ‘man-down’ style fall detectors.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one out of three adults ages 65 and older fall each year.

Pricing for the product starts at about $37 a month.
