Incipio, a California-based designer and manufacturer of mobile device accessories, has acquired Grosse Pointe-based ClamCase, a company that designs iPad keyboard cases. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We believe that Incipio is the perfect partner to help ClamCase reach its full potential as the market leader in tablet keyboard cases,” says John Schoenith, co-founder of ClamCase. Schoenith’s family owns the event facility and restaurant, The Roostertail in Detroit.

ClamCase is known for its iPad Air 2 keyboard case, which includes a 360-degree hinge that allows for several viewing and typing modes. The company also creates keyboard cases for the iPad, iPad 2, iPad Mini, and the iPad Air. In addition, the company has plans to release a keyboard case in a gold color.

The ClamCase acquisition will add to Incipio’s product portfolio that includes iPhone and smartphone cases, portable battery packs, headphones, and screen accessories.

“With ClamCase as a member of the Incipio family, we look forward to growing the business by combining our established infrastructure and wide-ranging distribution channels with ClamCase’s premium product line,” says Andy Fathollahi, CEO of Incipio.

Incipio’s ClamCase keyboard cases will be available in select retailers nationwide in June. Incipio’s products are sold at Radio Shack, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Target.
