Clothing retailer Kit and Ace, who makes luxury performance wear made from machine-washable cashmere, and was founded by the wife and son of Lululemon founder Chip Wilson, will open a brick-and-mortar store in June in Detroit’s Midtown district.
‪“We believe that beautiful, functional clothing should be enjoyed in an equally dynamic environment,” says Shannon Wilson, Kit and Ace co-founder. “Our upcoming new shop in Detroit will showcase this.” She says the store, to open June 18, will incorporate the work of designers, artists, and decorators from Detroit.
‪Kit and Ace will open at 4240 on Cass Ave., Suite 106, on the same block as Nora and Hugh, between Canfield and Willis, and will sell men’s and women’s sweaters, button-ups, pants, undergarments, and scarves. Prices range from about $70 for a tank top to about $150 for a pair of pants. The products are made out of what the company calls “technical cashmere,” a cashmere blend that is machine washable.
‪The company, founded in Vancouver, has opened seven locations in the U.S., including San Francisco and New York City with 10 more units, including Detroit, to open soon. By the end of the year, Wilson says 50 more retail stores open internationally by the end of the year.
‪Chip Wilson resigned from Lululemon’s board in February, the luxury workout-clothing retailer he founded in 1998. He’s now solely a shareholder after the company suffered a public relations crisis with the recall of its “too-sheer” yoga pants. Now, Wilson is serving as a mentor to his wife and son, Shannon and JJ Wilson, the founders of Kit and Ace, and is an investor in the company.
