Large-Scale Dominos Chain Reaction Event Coming to Wayne This Summer

A large-scale chain reaction event with Dominos, K’NEX pieces, tracks, and pingpong balls, is coming to downtown Wayne in Mid-July.

“We wanted to create the opportunity for the few builders that are in America to get together and create a huge chain reaction that involves 200,000 dominos, 10,000 connect pieces, tracks, and toy cars,” says Steve Price, the event organizer. “It’ll start off with probably one touch of a domino and lead to lots of other chain reactions.”

He says he is working to raise $7,000 on Kickstarter to pay for travel expenses and materials.

Price, from Canton Township, competed on the 2013 season of America’s Got Talent. He says some of the other builders, who are mostly teenagers and college students, have also been on national television shows.

Price says it’ll take the group of builders about a week to build the machine, and then once they trigger the chain reaction at the event, it’ll take anywhere from a half hour to an hour to complete the chain reaction. He says he hopes the event sparks an interest for students in the science, technology, mathematics, and engineering fields (STEM).

“These are really good and complicated examples of a lot of things that are involved in things like physics and engineering. We want to use this event to promote those fields and hopefully get the kids that watch it interested in learning more about this kind of stuff,” Price says.
