Fifteen Seconds of Fame, an app that delivers video footage to the smartphones of fans at University of Michigan basketball games, has expanded its partnership with the university to include coverage of football games at The Big House, pep rallies, and other school events.

“As the first college or professional organization to use the 15 Seconds of Fame fan engagement app, Michigan Athletics is thrilled to expand our partnership,” says Kurt Svoboda, U-M’s associate athletic director for external communications and public relations. “The app provides a unique way for Michigan fans to capture, preserve, and share their memories.”

When fans download the free app, which is available for Apple and Android devices, they are prompted to take a “selfie” so that the program is able to recognize their face. Once the app has the images in its system, it is able to identify people in the crowd and send the footage directly to their phone.

Here’s how it works: Fans log in at the venue of the event that the app is covering, and the app then processes footage from the event and matches fans to the moments they were on camera. The footage is then sent directly to the user’s account on the app and they can share it on any social media platform.

“We are excited to continue our relationship with one of the preeminent universities and sports programs in the country, a place that has special meaning for 15 Seconds of Fame since we tested our first-mover product — with the help of its great student body —there,” says Brett Josphe, CEO of 15 Seconds of Fame Inc. in New York.

Fans also have the option within the app to request 15 Seconds of Fame coverage at specific events, view upcoming events covered by the app, and watch the coverage of all of their friends added on the app.
