Detroit-based American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. today announced it has been selected as the target supplier to provide axles and driveshafts for General Motors' next generation full-size truck program.

"With the strategic sourcing of multi-generations of this program now clarified, American Axle & Manufacturing is pleased to reaffirm our long-term partnership with GM," says David Dauch, chairman, president, and CEO of American Axle & Manufacturing.

Dauch says he expects American Axle & Manufacturing will provide 75 percent of the light-duty axles, along with all of the heavy-duty axles and the rear steel driveshafts.

"With the direction of a core program of American Axle & Manufacturing's business now solidified for many years to come, we will continue to focus on leveraging our long-term commitment to quality, technology leadership, and operational excellence to drive profitable growth and business diversification," Dauch says.

Dauch says the announcement comes as a part of GM's strategic sourcing process, which rewards suppliers who hit agreed-upon cost targets. An objective of the strategic sourcing process is to involve suppliers earlier in the process of designing and developing future vehicle programs.

American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings, founded in 1994, supplies driveline and drivetrain systems and related components. The company has nearly 12,000 employees in 13 countries.
