Conference on Vision, Driving Comes to Dearborn Next Week

1046

A bi-annual conference on the relationship between vision and safe driving returns to Dearborn next week. Discussion topics include the aging driver, road and signage design, lighting systems, and drivers' visual and medical challenges.

"This three-day congress provides an exchange of scientific advances," says Dr. Philip Hessburg, medical director of the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology, the group hosting the event and a division of the Henry Ford Department of Ophthalmology. "The collaboration created at these congresses helps advance research at a faster pace."

Hessburg says The Eye, The Brain, and The Auto conference will bring together more than 30 experts from the automotive industry and the visual research community to discuss topics such as autonomous and crash-avoidance systems, driver distractions, multi-dimensional maps, and display technologies.

Speakers include Valerie Shuman, the vice president of industry program for the Connected Vehicle Trade Association; Peter Hancock, a professor at the University of Central Florida; and Stewart Reed, chairman of transportation design at the Art Center College of Design, among others.

The conference will be held Sept. 9-11 at The Dearborn Inn.
