Birmingham-native Joey Maalouf — known for his work as the hair and makeup stylist for celebrities such as Rachel Zoe and Jessica Alba — is bringing his app to metro Detroit, connecting customers with a hair stylist or makeup artist that will come to their home within an hour. The Glam App, available in 13 cities across the country, will be available in metro Detroit starting Thursday.
“I’m especially excited to bring the Glam App to Detroit because it’s where I started my career as a hair and makeup artist,” says Joey Maalouf, co-founder of The Glam App. “When I started thinking about The Glam App, I really wanted to create a tool that stylists would love, so I thought back to my days as a freelance hair and makeup artist in Detroit. We tried to create something that would have my life easier then, and now I’m incredibly excited to bring The Glam App back to the city that inspired so much of it.”
The free app offers customers the chance to connect with hair stylists and makeup artists and book an appointment in their area in an hour or less. Customers can also schedule an appointment for a later date.
The app offers stylists based on three levels of experience: a stylist with a year or experience, a stylist with two to five years of experience, or a stylist with five or more years of experience. Prices for the appointments are based on experience, ranging between $40 to $100. Services offered include basic blow-drys, up-dos, and manicures, along with makeup application.
The Glam App, launched in February, is available in Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and London. More than 850 artists and stylists are registered with the app.
The app will be live and ready for download in metro Detroit Thursday.
