West Michigan-based Amway, a direct selling company, has opened a new $25 million manufacturing plant in Vietnam, one of six new facilities the company has opened in 2015.
"The opening of our second factory in Vietnam will help our distributors reach more customers and become even more successful,” says Steve Van Andel, chairman of Amway, based in Ada. “We're committed to the continued growth of Amway Vietnam and look forward to many more years of helping to improve the lives of our distributors and the communities where they work and live."
Van Andel says the nearly 600,000-square-foot facility will house manufacturing operations for Nutrilite, the company’s vitamin and dietary supplement brand.
Amway began selling products in Vietnam in 2008, opening up a regional headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) in the southern part of the country. The company has 10 branches throughout the county, with about 450 employees and more than 300,000 distributors.
"The substantial investment in building up a second factory in Binh Duong demonstrates strongly our long-term commitment to Vietnam and our desire to play a part in contributing to the socio-economic growth of the country," says Leo Boon Wang, general director of Amway Vietnam.
As part of a $332 million manufacturing expansion, the company has opened facilities in India, China, Washington, California, and Ada, near the company’s headquarters.
