Ascent Aerospace, a global provider of aerospace tooling systems with its U.S. operations in Macomb Township, has added a 40,000-square-foot building next to its existing facility. The added space will be used to design and manage the production of assembly lines for aerostructures.

Ray Kauffmann, vice president of Ascent Integration – U.S. Operations, says the new space will allow for “close cooperation to engineer the structures, automation, and assembly lines utilized by today’s leading aerospace manufacturers.”

Kauffmann says the site, located at 16445 23 Mile Rd., will support more employees and allow for space for program management, systems engineering, aftermarket support, and global supply chain resources.

He says the manufacturing space will be shared with another Ascent facility, Global Tooling Systems, for a combined 200,000 square feet. A 40,000 square foot high bay space will be used to manufacture and test large automated assembly lines. Ascent will continue to use the remaining manufacturing space for production of assembly fixtures, trim and drill fixtures, and work platforms.

Ascent Integration – U.S. Operations, founded in 2014, has received more than $20 million in new contracts.

The state of Michigan is ranked as the No. 2 state in the country for aerospace manufacturing facilities, according to a report released in August by PwC, a London-based auditor. There are more than 230 aerospace companies manufacturing in Michigan.
