A $6 million, 62-unit high-end condominium storage facility designed to store boats, RVs, classic cars, and business archives, among other possessions will be built in Waterford Township near the Oakland County International Airport, officials announced today.

“The demand for an alternative to rental storage for prized possessions such as boats, collector cars, RVs, and business inventory is clear,” says Kathleen Adamson, principal owner of StorageCondos of Michigan, the group building the facility. “Many people who have outgrown their garage space or keep their items in a variety of rental facilities would rather consolidate their belongings into one convenient, secure, accessible space that they own, in a community of people with similar interests and lifestyles.”

Adamson says each unit will be climate-controlled, and the storage facility on Balian Road just north of Highland Road will have gated access. She says each of the 47 900-square-foot units along with 15 720-square-foot units and standard features will include  water, sewer, electric, and gas in each unit, along with natural gas fired heaters.

The insulated steel garage doors have keyless entry and remote door openers, and the units have insulated interior walls, Internet-controlled temperatures, and Wi-Fi. Optional features include a utility sink with hot and cold water, half or full finished baths, and lofts.

Adamson says the facilities are available for purchase by private individuals and businesses, and can be combined to create a larger storage space. The condos are estimated to cost $115,000 for the 900-square-foot units and $95,000 for the 720-square-foot units. Construction is expected to begin in the spring, with the first units move-in ready by late August 2016.
