Demolition has begun on a vacant office building in Plymouth to make way for a $21 million luxury apartment building. Razing of the vacant 20,000-square-foot Columbian Financial Group office building on Plymouth Road is underway.

The 93-unit complex, at 333 Plymouth Rd., east of North Holbrook Street, will consist of two and four-story apartment buildings. The apartments will feature 10-foot ceilings, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, in-unit washers and dryers, and balconies or patios, along with a community lounge, a community park, and a pavilion with fire-pits and grilling stations.

“Starkweather Lofts offer just the right combination of elements — solid urban loft design, upscale amenities, nearby parks and trails, and a viable downtown with great restaurants and shops all within walking distance,” says Mark DeMaria, principal for DevMar Development, a Bingham Farms-based developer and a partner on the project, along with Bingham Farms-based Burton-Katzman and F5 Investments.

The developers will preserve the large existing trees surrounding the property and plant new ones, and will also build a walking path.
