Chevrolet today announced updates to the 2016 Silverado 1500 full-size pickup, including a new front end design, expanded use of eight-speed automatic transmissions, and added safety technologies.

“(The redesigned 2016 Silverado) will feature a more muscular appearance and offer new customer-focused technologies,” says Sandor Piszar, marketing director for Chevy Trucks.

Piszar says the truck has a new front-end design with more horizontal elements, along with a sculpted hood. The new Silverado 1500 offers an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The vehicle’s V-8 engine has 420 horsepower and 460 pounds per feet of torque. It also supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an integrated system that allows drivers to use their phone, access navigation maps, and listen to music hands free.

Piszar says the updates are part of an effort to keep up of the momentum of the brand’s pickup sales, which are up 32 percent in 2015. He says more details about the truck will be released in the fall.
