Sea Life Michigan Aquarium, a 35,000-square-foot attraction in Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in Auburn Hills, announced today it will open on Jan. 29.

“We are less than two months away from the big grand opening of our amazing aquarium that will feature more than 250 underwater species and create a fun and educational adventure for visitors of all ages,” says Hayley Townsend, the venue’s general manager.

Operated by U.K.-based Merlin Entertainments, Sea Life Michigan is the company’s seventh location in the United States and its 42nd worldwide. It will be home to 5,000 animals, including sharks, stingrays, starfish, and a wide array of tropical fish in 22 tanks.

Themed exhibits including a 180-degree ocean tunnel, interactive touch pools, and a custom-designed educational display focused on Michigan’s fresh water species and ecosystems. Docents will host daily talks and feed shows, and guests can use interactive digital touchpads at each exhibit and theater.

The company will take an active role in the conservation of the world’s oceans and sea creatures by posting messages throughout the building, Townsend says.

The company is offering special pre-opening rates. One-time tickets for visitors age 3 and over are $17.50; an individual annual pass is $54; a family of four annual pass is $200; and additional family member add-ons to the annual pass are $50. Children two and under are free.
