The Symetra Tour, or the official qualifying tour of the Ladies Professional Golf Association, unveiled today the Tullymore Classic, to be held next summer at the Tullymore Golf Resort in Stanwood, east of Mount Pleasant.

“As someone who lived in Grand Rapids for five years and always enjoyed the short trip to stay and play at Tullymore, I’m excited to bring a Symetra Tour tournament to one of my favorite resorts,” says Mike Nichols, chief business officer of the Symetra Tour. “Grand Rapids, Battle Creek, and the Upper Peninsula communities are already passionate fans of the LPGA Tour and the Symetra Tour, so this event was a natural addition.”

As the fourth new event to be added to the tour’s 2015 schedule, the Tullymore Classic to be held June 29 to July 5, will bring together the top 144 up-and-coming female golf professionals to compete for a total tournament purse of $100,000.

The winner of the tournament will earn $15,000 and have an opportunity to move into the top-10 on the Volvik Race for the Card money list. The top 10 players on the Symetra Tour’s money list at the end of the year will earn LPGA Tour membership for the 2016 season.

“Tullymore Golf Resort is honored to have been picked as a tournament site on the 2015 Symetra Tour for the Road to the LPGA,” says Terry Schieber, the resort’s CEO. “The highly acclaimed golf course of our Tullymore Golf Club will be ready to offer its unique challenge throughout the Tullymore Classic.

In 2014, the Symetra Tour included the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship in Battle Creek and the Island Resort Championship in Harris. Blythefield Country Club in Grand Rapids also hosted the Meijer LPGA Classic this year.

Other new events added to this year’s tour include the GreatLIFE Sioux Falls Challenge in South Dakota; the Danielle Downey Classic in Rochester, N.Y.; and the Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout in El Dorado, Ark. The full schedule will be released by mid-January.
