Allen Park-based ControlTec has received certification from the Federal Communications Commission to transmit real-time data collection — gathered via the company’s vehicle data recorders — on the Verizon Wireless network.

Using the wireless network will allow ControlTec to more easily secure and analyze raw data from test vehicles by using its cloud-based data management and analysis platform. From there, automotive OEMs can make more accurate quality decisions before vehicles go into production, says David Ploucha, president of ControlTec.

“The ability to take in real-time, raw data and to make it actionable in a quick and reliable way is critical as we work to provide product solutions to our customers,” Ploucha says. “In this demanding data-driven industry, the speed and reliability of Verizon’s network gives us a competitive advantage by allowing us to make quick decisions for our customers in real-time.”

Ploucha says that more than 80 percent of OEMs in the United States have used the startup’s products for fleet management, product development, and quality.

ControlTec is an example of a company using the Verizon network to drive and improve product development, says John Granby, president of Verizon Wireless for Michigan, Indiana, and Kentucky. “Our network is built to help businesses like ControlTec find new ways to succeed.”
