Commerce Township’s Downtown Development Authority, working with InSite Commercial, has two large residential areas under contract as part of 200 acres of “shovel ready” land available for new homes, stores, restaurants, and light-industrial projects.

Located just north of M-5, at Pontiac Trail, Commerce Towne Place has drawn interest from M. Shapiro Development for around 400 townhomes (Parcel A), along with complementary retail and restaurant space fronting Martin Parkway, which runs through the property starting just north of M-5, at Pontiac Trail.

In addition, Hunter Pasteur Homes is looking at building around 40 single-family homes in the northwest section of Commerce Towne Place, or Parcel G. Other parcels — B, C, H, J, and K — are slated for retail development, while Parcel I is being marketed to office-research users.

Parcels E and D are being marketed as areas for single-family homes with complementary retail, while Parcel F could see office, retail or a municipal use.

“The overall project will bring new jobs, new residents, and increase our tax base,” says Kathleen C. Jackson, director of Commerce Township’s DDA. “It will be a gathering place for the township.”

Randy Thomas, president of InSite Commercial in Commerce Township, says interested homebuilders are responding to pent-up demand. “Commerce Towne Place is a well-located infill project that has drawn quite a bit of interest of late, which is related to the overall improvement in the economy. The infrastructure is largely in place, with is another draw.”
