Altair Engineering, a subsidiary of the Troy-based product design and development company, will establish a regional headquarters in Malaysia as the company expands throughout Southeast Asia and into new markets.

“Malaysia’s robust infrastructure, open policy to foreign business, strong talent pool, and connectivity with other (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) markets makes it the ideal location for Altair’s regional operation,” says Srirangam Srirangarajan, Altair’s managing director for the ASEAN region, Australia, and New Zealand.

In addition to enhancing the company’s local presence, the Kuala Lumpur office in Malaysia will help facilitate entry into new market segments, including electronics and aerospace, Srirangarajan says. Currently, the company works in industry sectors including automotive, defense, oil and gas, and consumer goods.

“According to our market research, the (computer-aided engineering) market is growing rapidly in Malaysia and throughout southeast Asia,” he says. “We are seeing CAE technologies moving aggressively into non-traditional domains like consumer products, architecture, civil engineering, and construction, to name a few.”

With Malaysia’s move toward establishing itself as a high-tech manufacturing hub, many companies are turning to CAE software to improve the quality of their products while maintaining cost-efficiency, Srirangarajan says. “CAE software enables companies to analyze and test a product for reliability, durability, and quality, which helps increase their competitive edge,” he added.

The new office will also serve as Altair’s training and technical support center for the region. Founded in 1985, the company has 2,000 employees and 48 offices located in 20 different countries.
