Eighteen builders from the U.S., Canada, Austria, and Germany will gather at the Westland Shopping Center on July 23 as they attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest domino circle field, as well as the American record for the most dominoes toppled.

As part of the annual Incredible Science Machine event, which launched last year, the builders will create a chain reaction using more than half a million objects, including 250,000 dominoes and thousands of other common items.

“I can assure everyone that you’ll hold your breath and have goose bumps as you watch what these amazing builders have created come toppling down in fine precision,” says Lisa Fawcett, marketing vice president at Zeal Credit Union, which is sponsoring the event.

The project, which will take more than 10 days and 1,800 combined work hours to create, is being led by builder Steve Price, a Canton Township native and recent graduate of the Michigan State University College of Engineering.

Price and other Incredible Science Machine builders have been featured on America’s Got Talent, The Discovery Channel, The Today Show, Rachel Ray, and more.

The public is invited to attend the event at 1 p.m. at the shopping center, located at 35000 Warren Rd.

Zeal Credit Union is also holding a contest where individuals can create and submit their own homemade chain reactions.

When the videos are posted to a public social media account with the hashtag #ZealTheLove, participants will be eligible to win a $100 gift card, four VIP seats to this year’s Incredible Science Machine event, and the opportunity to kick off the event’s record-breaking attempt.
