Taco Bell Partners with City Year to Boost Student Attendance

DETROIT — City Year Detroit in partnership with Taco Bell Foundation for Teens is launching an attendance initiative to increase attendance and improve student academic achievement.

“Taco Bell Foundation for Teens and City Year Detroit both believe that strong attendance is crucial to student success in school and beyond,” says Penny Bailer, executive director at City Year Detroit. “At City Year, outstanding young adults dedicate a year of full-time service in low-performing schools to help close the educational achievement gap. Taco Bell Foundation for Teens attendance, and the overall success of the teens they serve.”

These sponsored initiatives include morning greetings by corps members and attendance celebrations, as well as career and college events to help students prepare for success beyond graduation.

Corps members will also encourage students to fill out pledge cards committing to graduate from high school and focus on strong attendance. Once registered, students will qualify to earn points toward prizes and educational support, including scholarships and local mentoring resources. Students will also have access to digital tools, support, and an online community that high school students need to stay on track.

The program will take place at fourteen schools in Detroit, Miami, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Washington D.C.
