DETROIT — Molina Healthcare Inc. of Michigan, a subsidiary of a Long Beach, Cali.-based health provider, will establish a new office in downtown Detroit this fall in the six-story office building to be closer to where the company’s members live and work, officials said today.
“A substantial number of our members are located in Metro Detroit, so we felt it was important to have a greater presence in the areas where our members live and work,” says Stephen Harris, president of the company’s Michigan branch.
The 30,000 square foot space owned by Bedrock Real Estate Services will house up to 125 employees. The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News currently occupy the building at 615 W. Lafayette Blvd., but the two are expected to relocate their downtown headquarters’ this fall to the Federal Reserve building on West Fort St.
Molina recently moved its Michigan headquarters to a building in Troy.
Harris says the health care provider’s Detroit and Troy expansions are expected to generate up to $20.3 million in total capital investment and create more than 460 jobs, including 125 at the Detroit location. These include member services representatives, case managers, community healthcare workers, and other positions.

Bedrock has engaged Detroit-based architect firm Albert Kahn Associates to design Molina’s new downtown office space while restoring some of the storied building’s historic details. The firms founder, renowned architect Albert Kahn, originally designed the Romanesque building that opened in 1917.
