Detroit – Ye Olde Butcher Shoppe, a family-owned, high-quality city market popular in Lafayette Park in the 70s and 80s, is reopening in the former location of Zaccaro’s Market. Brothers Michael and Peter Solaka, the sons of the original Shoppe owner, will introduce a reconfigured space designed to better serve its customers.
The Solaka brothers’ concept for the Shoppe will mirror their family’s markets in the past. Ye Olde Butcher Shoppe will have a broad product mix and will maintain a high quality but provide a complete grocery line for everyday living. Sundays will feature fresh bagels, smoked fish and Sunday newspapers.
Michael said, “Although we have added many new components such as a salad and olive bar, full coffee service and patio seating, we are keeping true to the spirit of our original store which was inspired by quality urban groceries in New York.”
Enhancing the user-friendly concept will be the addition of a City Basics department, which will feature paper and cleaning products, seasonal items, kitchen and cooking gadgets, and other sundries for the growing residential market. Additionally, the Solaka brothers have added an outdoor patio for casual dining at the north side of the building, facing Woodward Avenue.
“We want to provide a place where you can come in and put together a great meal all in one place,” said Peter. “Our pricing will be the same as comparable stores in the suburbs. Since so many people have to drive there for their groceries as it is, I think we will compete well in the Detroit market.”
