Beaumont Hospitals Announces Leadership Appointment

DETROIT, Mich., October 02, 2009 – Beaumont Hospitals President and CEO Kenneth Matzick has announced a series of executive appointments to fill positions created under a new organizational structure and others held by retiring executives. All of the appointments were effective Oct. 1, 2009.

“Beaumont is preparing for the future – and for health care reform – with a greater focus on medical quality and value, and with greater involvement by physicians and nurses in our decision-making,” said Matzick. “This requires that we further organize around the needs of patients and their medical conditions in a structure that integrates clinical services throughout the patient’s episode of care.”

The new assignments include:

A. Neil Johnson, M.D., of Rochester Hills, as senior vice president and associate chief medical officer for Clinical Operations.  He has been senior vice president, Alternate Sites of Care. Dr. Johnson’s assignment will include overseeing the activities of corporate physician chiefs and medical directors to promote clinical integration, and assisting the chief medical officer in developing strategic plans for medical administration.

Charles J. Shanley, M.D., of Grosse Pointe Farms, as senior vice president and associate chief medical officer for Professional Services.  He has been senior vice president, Surgical Services for Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. Dr. Shanley will manage the clinical, academic and business activities of Beaumont physicians and will work closely with Robert Folberg, M.D., Dean of the new Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine.

Paul Misch M.D., of Rochester, as senior vice president and medical director of Primary and Ambulatory Care. Dr. Misch will help expand the role and practice of primary and ambulatory care at Beaumont.  He will continue to serve as chair of Family Medicine.

Larry Lloyd, M.D., of Grosse Pointe Farms, as vice president, quality and safety, from senior vice president, Surgical Services, Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe. He will support Sam Flanders, M.D., senior vice president, Quality, in implementing best practices, and in continually improving clinical effectiveness and patient safety.

The following executives have been named to succeed Beaumont leaders who are planning to retire or have accepted other assignments:

Shane Cerone, of Royal Oak, as senior vice president and hospital director, Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak from chief operating officer of the Royal Oak hospital. Cerone is succeeding John Labriola, of Rochester Hills, who is retiring after 40 years of service with Beaumont. Labriola stepped down as hospital director on Oct. 1 and will continue to serve as an advisor for projects such as the medical school.

Eric Hunt, of Troy, as senior vice president and director of Alternate Sites of Care from vice president, operations, Ambulatory Division. He succeeds Dr. Johnson.

Subra Sripada, of Canton, as vice president and chief information officer from associate chief information officer. He succeeds Paul Peabody, of Grand Blanc, who is retiring after 35 years with Beaumont. Peabody will remain at Beaumont through the end of the year to assist with implementation of a new electronic medical record system in Beaumont’s Emergency Centers.
