Red Jacket Gala 2017

City Year Detroit hosted its annual Red Jacket Gala on Thursday, May 11 at Cobo Center. More than 600 civic leaders enjoyed a cocktail reception, dinner, and presentation of the 2017 Idealist in Action Award, which was given to Matt Simoncini, president and CEO of Southfield-based automotive seating supplier Lear Corp.

Detroit Economic Club New Leaders Luncheon 2017

On Sept. 13, the Detroit Economic Club hosted a luncheon at the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel in downtown Detroit, called Perspectives from Three New Michigan CEOs. More than 300 attendees heard remarks from Patti Poppe, president and CEO of CMS Energy Corp.; Joan Budden, president and CEO of Priority Health; and Wright Lassiter III, president and CEO of Henry Ford Health System. WeWork Grand Opening at 1001 Woodward Building

On Sept. 14, WeWork, which provides shared workspaces, community areas, and services to businesses and nonprofit organizations, held a grand opening event on three floors it occupies in the 1001 Woodward Building in downtown Detroit (WeWork Campus Martius). The company also has shared office space at 1449 Woodward (SW corner of Woodward and Clifford Street).

Hope Shines Gala 2017

The New Day Foundation for Families, an organization working to improve outcomes for cancer survivors, hosted the annual Hope Shines Gala at Eastern Market in Detroit on Sept. 8. Guests enjoyed dinner, cocktails, live and silent auctions, raffles, and live entertainment by the Ben Sharkey quartet.

Hatch Off 2017

The seventh annual Hatch Off was hosted on Thursday, August 31 by Hatch Detroit, where east African restaurant, market, and juice bar Baobab Fare won a $50,000 grant to open a brick and mortar location. Guests also enjoyed a strolling dinner and dessert served by Hatch alumni, music, and a live auction.

Motown Infinity Ovation Summer Cruise

Infinity Ovation Yacht Charters hosted a Motown-themed summer cruise on Wednesday, September 6 on the Detroit River. Guests enjoyed a strolling dinner, open bar, and the musical stylings of Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, and more Motown favorites by local R&B group Persuasion.
