Michigan Governor Rick Snyder’s office has announced the appointment of Sharyl Smith to the Early Childhood Investment Corp. (ECIC), an independent, public-owned nonprofit that works to help Michigan build better education, health, and economic outcomes through early childhood development.
Smith will serve a four-year term expiring in July 2022.
ECIC was created in 2005 and is an 18-member board and the state’s leading group for information about and investment in early childhood programs. The corporation works with the Michigan Department of Education’s Office of Great Start and other departments in state government.
“It’s an honor to serve on the board,” says Smith. “ECIC’s work drives policy and projects related to early childhood education and development, creating a foundation that yields rewards across our state.”
Smith currently serves as vice president of marketing, planning, and business development for McLaren Health Care. She also serves as board chair for the American Heart Association of Southeast Michigan and sits on the board of the Detroit Minority Organ Tissue Transplant Education Program Foundation.
After earning her undergraduate degree in psychology, Smith went on to complete a master’s degree in marketing communications, both from Eastern Michigan University.
