SmithGroupJJR Firm Hires New Studio Leader

SmithGroupJJR, a global architecture, engineering, and planning firm has hired George Athens as its workplace studio leader for its Detroit office.

In his new role, Athens will oversee the firm’s workplace studio, including its project delivery and business development efforts throughout the Midwest.

He previously served as managing partner at Nelson Global Design in Philadelphia, where he led all aspects of the architecture business, focusing on the corporate, commercial, and higher education markets. Prior to Nelson, he served as managing director of Cannon Global Design’s business in India.

Athens, of Birmingham, earned a Bachelor of Architecture at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
