General Motors Co. today announced new available features to help simplify trailering with the 2016 GMC Sierra pickup, including a gooseneck/fifth-wheel trailering prep package and an integrated camera system.

“GMC’s reputation was forged on the ability to perform heavy work with a premium touch, and these new options do more to make that work comfortable and confident,” says Stuart Pierce, Sierra’s marketing manager.

The new gooseneck/fifth-wheel trailering prep package includes a frame-mounted hitch platform and tray that accommodates a gooseneck ball hitch or fifth-wheel hitch mounting brackets. The hitch platform is hidden under the truck’s bed floor. The package is $350.

The new trailering camera system features three cameras: two side-view cameras and one for the rear of the trailer. The system also supports the use of an optional fourth camera, such as one inside the trailer where livestock, for example, could be monitored during transport. The camera system is available from dealers and starts at around $1,000.

Other features include an integrated trailer brake controller that is optional on Sierra 1500 and 2500HD models, and standard on the 3500HD model. Available integrated cruise control, auto grade braking, and diesel exhaust braking, which offer greater driving control and reduced brake wear, rounds out the package.
