Saint Joseph Mercy Health System Names New President, CEO

ANN ARBOR — Rob Casalou has been named the new regional president and CEO of Saint Joseph Mercy Health System based in Ann Arbor. He will succeed Garry C. Faja, who will be retire Dec. 31.

As current president and CEO of St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor and Livingston hospitals, Casalou, of Novi, has helped in the development of several innovative partnerships including the merger with IHA Physician Group and an affiliation between Saint Joseph Mercy Health System and University of Michigan Health System which resulted in joint ventures such as the opening of an Acute Care for Elders hospital unit.

Before joining Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, Casalou spent almost 20 years at St. John Providence Health System in various leadership roles. He was responsible for overseeing the construction of Providence Park Hospital in Novi, where he served as its president and CEO.

Casalou serves as chair-elect of the Michigan Health and Hospital Association, chair of the American Heart Association metro Detroit chapter’s board of directors and board member of the Midwest affiliate of AHA, and vice chair of the Make-a -Wish Foundation of Michigan board of directors. In addition, he serves on the IHA board and the Washtenaw Health Initiative steering committee.

He earned his bachelor’s in economics and master’s in business administration and health care administration from the University of Michigan.
